Mosquito Protection: Huntington, Beaver Lodge & Burnside Subdivisions, Lilburn, GA

Code Enforcement

In addition to what Gwinnett County has found to be the 10 most common code violations, which are listed on the Quality of Life page, here are other items of concern that have been expressed by neighbors in our community and which are in violation of the Gwinnett County Code of Ordinances.

Click here for the updated Code Enforcement Explanation.

  • Uncut grass and weeds: The code requires that the “Premises and exterior property shall be maintained free from grass, weeds, or uncultivated vegetation in excess of 12 inches in height.” Unkempt yards can breed snakes, rats and mice.
  • Home Maintenance: The code requires that “exterior wood surfaces, other than decay resistant woods, shall be protected from the elements and decay by painting or other protective covering or treatment.” And all window, doors and garage doors be “maintained in good condition without splitting or deterioration.”  Fences are required to be in good repair as well.
  • Leaving Litter:  The code prohibits “depositing, placing, throwing, or leaving of litter on any public or private property.”  Besides being an eye soar and possible health hazard, items such as nails, screws, and other sharp objects can cause a flat tire.  (Even if it is not our trash, if we will pick up items in our yards and on the street in front of our homes,  everyone benefits.)
  • Loud Noise: The code states that noises that are “plainly audible at a distance of 50 feet” or between the hours of “11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.” is prohibited
  • Noisy animals: Except in the case of an intruder, the code prohibits the "vocalizations (of noisy animals) for more than 15 minutes without interruption or more than 30 minutes if the vocalization is intermittent."

Responsible pet owners clean up after their dogs in Huntington, Beaver Lodge & Burnside Subdivisions, Lilburn, GAAlso, please remember to pick up after your dog.  Many households have children who play in their yards; so please be a responsible pet owner and clean up after your dog.

  • Leash Law: Though the Animal Control Ordinance for Gwinnett County allows for a dog to be off the leash if is "obedient to and under voice command" of its owner, many pets off the leash have been observed not to be under voice command. And with pets fighting with loose dogs in the neighborhood and there being dogs bites, please keep your pet on a leash when walking them in the community and don't allow them to run loose in the neighborhoods.
  • Animal Odor: The code also make provision against "objectionable odors in enclosures or surroundings and thereby creates unreasonable annoyance or discomfort to neighbors or others in close proximity to the premises where the animal is kept."

Beyond the county code, the State of Georgia prohibits off road vehicles on public streets.  This includes 4-wheelers and non street legal motor bikes.  And due to liability issues, no motorized vehicles will be allowed in the field, woods, or unpaved areas of Huntington Recreational Club property.

HPlease observe the traffic signs. The posted speed limit is 25 mph for the whole neighborhood, but many cars and motorcycles drive much faster than that through the neighborhood. Additionally, many vehicles roll through the stop signs. With over 265 households in our community, many of whose residences walk, bike ride, and jog in the neighborhoods, it is crucial for everyone's safety that we all observe these posted signs.

The state also requires that all bicycle riders under the age of 16 wear a bicycle helmet.
